Chemistry deals with the composition, structure and properties of matter, the interactions between different types of matter, and the relationship between matter and energy. The learning of chemistry is situated in real-life contexts and with experiments to stimulate student’s interest and motivation for learning. It focuses on developing the ability of student to think scientifically, critically and creatively, and solve problems individually and collaboratively in chemistry-related contexts.
Through the learning of chemistry, it is possible to acquire relevant conceptual and procedural knowledge, and develop understanding of developments in engineering, medicine and other related scientific and technological fields. Besides, students are able to apply their knowledge of chemistry, to appreciate the relationship between chemistry and other disciplines, to be aware of science-technology-society-environment connections within contemporary issues. Lastly, it provides a concrete foundation in the chemistry discipline for further studies or careers.
